Fibromyalgia

What is fibromyalgia syndrome?

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. Affected people suffer from severe, usually excruciating pain in different regions of the body, especially in the muscles.
In many patients, the pain syndrome begins in the back and then spreads to the body. In addition to pain, many sufferers experience fatigue and exhaustion, headaches, gastrointestinal problems and depression.

To date, the causes of the disease are not known. However, research is trying to clarify the question of whether biochemical or neurological disorders can be a reason. The term fibromyalgia means "fiber-muscle pain.

However, physicians suspect that there are certain triggers that increase the risk of developing fibromyalgia.
These are, for example, stress, low physical activity, psychological stress or smoking.

However, through physical therapy, light exercise training, and targeted multimodal pain management, individuals can be shown how to at least relieve the pain and symptoms and live with the condition.

However, fibromyalgia is not curable.
