What happens to the bones in osteoporosis?

Today, October 20, is World Osteoporosis Day!

This is not only an information day for interested parties, but also an important day for those affected.

Osteoporosis is a widespread disease, but still receives too little attention and treatment.

Therefore, we would like to briefly explain to you today on this day what actually happens in the bone in osteoporosis:

Bone substance is regularly renewed - new bone is built up and old substance is broken down. As you get older, this bone metabolism changes and, in the case of osteoporosis, an imbalance occurs. More bone is broken down than can be built up. In addition, bone minerals, which are very important for bone density and thus also for stability, become less. For this reason, the risk of fractures is significantly higher in osteoporosis patients.
