Spondylolisthesis

Do you know how it can happen that vertebrae slide?

The supporting apparatus of the spine, i.e. muscles, tendons and ligaments, is unstable and can no longer hold individual or even several vertebrae in position. This mainly affects the lumbar spine.

Three possible reasons for vertebrae slippage are:

-> Deformities of the vertebral arch or spine, e.g. Scheuermann's disease, scoliosis

-> degenerative wear, e.g. due to arthrosis or herniated discs

-> Accidents

As a rule, spondylolisthesis can be treated well conservatively with physiotherapy and only requires surgical treatment if neurological deficits occur or if the slippage intensifies.
